About Our Team

Rick Smith

Chief Financial Officer

Rick Smith joined EXOS as chief financial officer in 2014. His responsibilities include overseeing financial planning and analysis and accounting operations. Smith came to EXOS from Resource, the largest independent digital advertising agency in the U.S., where he was the chief financial officer. At Resource, Smith oversaw financial planning and analysis, accounting, technology infrastructure, and facilities. Smith played a pivotal role in the sale of a minority stake in the organization to a private equity firm, drove the acquisition of Ammirati, a highly-regarded New York City-based advertising agency, and secured new facilities in multiple geographies.

Prior to Resource, Smith was the chief financial officer of inVentiv Communications, an advertising and marketing services holding company focused on the pharmaceutical industry, where he played a significant role in building the infrastructure to support the company’s growth from four business units, $50M in net revenues, and 300 employees, to 20 business units, $300M in net revenues, and 1,600 employees. He assisted with the sale of the company in 2005 to inVentiv Health, a public company, and in 2010 to Thomas H. Lee Partners, a private equity firm.

Prior to inVentiv, Smith held financial and operational roles with the retail holding company Limited Inc. (now L Brands), management consulting firm CSC Index, and Bank One (now JPMorgan Chase).

Smith has a master of business administration from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School and a bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Arizona. He resides in Phoenix with his wife, Amy, and their three young children.
