Steve Smith
Manager of Performance Physical Therapy Services
Steve is a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County where he received his BS in Biological Sciences and played for the university's Division I baseball team. He continued his education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, obtaining his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Physical Therapy.
Steve has been a practicing physical therapist for 7 years. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is also a Functional Movement ScreenTM (FMS) Certified Specialist.
Steve is currently the Manager of Performance Physical Therapy Services at Athletes' Performance Florida. He also functions as a Performance Specialist training athletes rehabbing from injuries or surgical procedures. He has implemented Athletes' Performance methodology and integrated it with his strong manual skills and understanding of normal and impaired human movement to provide the best possible care for the athletes under his care. Steve works closely with several strength and conditioning coaches to ultimately integrate the rehabilitating athlete back into the training process.
As an employee of Athletes' Performance, he has presented on multiple topics to audiences in the sports medicine, performance training, tactical, American football, and soccer athletic realms. The topics he has presented include: performance training for rehab specialists, screening to prevent injury, innovative strategies for injury prevention, taking a team approach to post-surgical shoulder instability rehabilitation, and developing return to play drills for soccer athletes recovering from ACL reconstruction. He is also an instructor for courses on the Functional Movement ScreenTM and Selective Functional Movement AssessmentTM.
