Making it through the first 30 days of your resolution can help you reach long-term success, according to a new survey from global research firm Kelton for self-discipline expert Rory Vaden. [KnoxvilleDailySun.com].

The survey found that while half of Americans made resolutions in 2012, 31 percent quit their resolution within the first 30 days. The good news: People who made it past the first 30 days were three times more likely to succeed.

Vaden offers the following tips to reach the 30-day milestone:

  • Pick one resolution to avoid overwhelming yourself. Try one of our 10 simple resolutions >
  • Focus on your efforts, not results. This will help you avoid getting discouraged if the changes don’t happen as fast as you’d like.
  • Find a buddy to help you stay committed and accountable.
  • Evaluate the progress of your efforts weekly.
