Is Success Making You Sick?

If you’re up for a promotion, it’s a good idea to proceed with caution—for your health.

While following 1,000 newly promoted businessmen, British researchers discovered that when someone makes a jump up the corporate ladder, they immediately experience significantly more mental strain.

“The mental health of managers typically deteriorates after a job promotion, and in a way that goes beyond merely a short-term change,” say the researchers.

The take-home: While your work life can lead you to riches, if you don’t have a supportive family and social life waiting for you at home, you may become too sick to enjoy your success.

And remember: There are no indications of any health improvements for promoted people other than reduced doctor visits, which could actually be something to worry about rather than praise.
