Tylenol May Weaken Flu Shot

alvi2047
Your kid may come down with a fever after getting vaccinated against the flu (a common side effect), but don’t give him a preventive dose of temperature-controlling Tylenol beforehand, unless specifically instructed to do so by your doctor.
That’s because acetaminophen can weaken a wide array of different vaccine’s effectiveness, including influenza, according to a new study in The Lancet. The 459 infants in the study were randomly assigned to get acetaminophen in six- or eight-hour intervals for 24 hours after vaccination or no drugs.
The result: Fewer infants who received acetaminophen had a fever, but those babies also had significantly fewer antibodies against the vaccinated disease. It’s believed that the pain reliever’s anti-inflammatory activity might interfere with a healthy immune system’s antibody responses, explaining the difference. Read the study for more details.
