Video Game Injuries?

Apparently pain and injury are just part of the game, at least when it comes to some video games. A new study shows that gaming for more than an hour a day increases your risk of wrist and finger pain.

The researchers, from New York University's Hospital for Joint Diseases, found that more than one in 10 kids who play video games on game consoles or hand-held devices experience significant joint pain in their hands. The pain was bad enough that it limited how much they played.

Each hour of daily video game use increased the likelihood of experiencing joint pain by 50 percent. And the younger the child, the more prone their joints were to injury, most likely due to the fact that their muscles and tendons are still developing, notes the study author.

So what can you do to help avoid pain and injury for you or your child? Limit video game play to a few times a week, and help your kids get physically active by playing outside with them (try these ideas at the playground) and enrolling them in sports and activities.
