What Will You Achieve Next?

Core Performance Center member Jay Lavender shows off his fulfilled "I Will" statement from the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
“I will make 2010 my healthiest year ever.”
“I will spend more time playing with my kids.”
"I will show that age doesn't matter."
“I will…” is not a marketing campaign. It's a declaration and daily reminder that anything is possible with effort, determination and planning. At the Core Performance Center (CPC) in Santa Monica, members have covered a wall with 4x6 inch cards that express their goals as “I will…” statements, promises to themselves to remain focused on their goals.
“I will win a gold medal,” one card says.
“I will wear heels to my sister’s wedding.”

So when you see Jay Lavender pictured above with a card that reads “I will conquer,” it’s not by chance, as much as will, that he holds that card atop Mount Kilimanjaro. Jay sets achievable goals, works hard, and seizes opportunities. You could say he wills himself to succeed—and stays ready for any challenge.
“I found out I was going a month before the climb, so my preparation consisted of seven sessions at CPC, a few walks and one hike in the Palisades,” he says. “I'm not a camper. My version of hiking is playing 36 holes of golf in one day, and I'd never been above 12,000 feet. While I got knocked around a bit by the altitude, my legs held up surprisingly well thanks to all the movement prep, squats and ESD sessions. I made it to the summit thanks to the time I've spent training with all of you at CPC.”

There’s a difference between saying you want to do something and declaring that you will do it. Question is, what will you achieve this year?
