Moyes, whose squad has been battling financial and injury woes, brought in performance specialists Steve Tashjian and Scott Piri from Athletes' Performance, wanting to use the same methodology that helped bring Germany to the 2006 World Cup semi-finals, to get maximum performance out of his club. Carl Crawford, the Tampa Bay Rays' left fielder, has had a strong career since joining the majors in 2002. He's lead the league in stolen bases four times, been selected to three All-Star teams, and was even selected as the MVP of the 2009 All-Star game.

Crawford told the Washington Post that training at Athletes' Performance in Arizona prior to 2002 helped him get to where he is today:

While the research study is just getting underway—it began in April—it has potential to save lives and help improve health and safety for firefighters as well as individuals in other occupations.
