Athletes’ Performance Launches The Comeback Initiative to Support Our Nation’s Heroes

Athletes’ Performance is excited and honored to announce The Comeback Initiative, a new program dedicated to serving military, law enforcement, fire fighter, and first aid responders who were injured or wounded while serving.

Since 2010, Athletes’ Performance has supported more than 300 injured special operations personnel with integrated performance training, nutrition, and physical therapy services as part of the Eagle Fund, a joint charity program with the Andrews Institute. The success of the Eagle Fund sparked the creation of The Comeback Initiative, which will bring the program to each Athletes’ Performance facility while providing support for members of the military, law enforcement, fire fighter, and first aid responder communities.

“When a professional athlete becomes injured, every resource is utilized to get them back to health and back to play in order for them to help their team succeed,” said Alex Lincoln, vice president of tactical business development at Athletes’ Performance. “That same world-class integrated care should be available to the brave men and women who serve this country every day and run towards trouble while risking their own health and safety. The Comeback Initiative is our way of serving those who've become injured and wounded and are working to return to their own teams and to a better quality of life. This is our duty to them.”

The Comeback Initiative provides daily performance training sessions, physical therapy, and nutritional support to those who attend the program, typically for a stay of three to five weeks. The program will be supported by charities, corporations, and individuals who share in Athletes’ Performance’s dedication to providing the resources needed to allow the individuals to return to health where they can continue on with their careers or simply to a better quality of life where they're able to live with less pain.

“Every day that I come here I get a little bit closer to how I’m going to write the last chapter and how I’m going to leave the military,” said Lieutenant Colonel Enrique Melendez of the U.S. Army. “When I started the program I was on crutches, and six weeks later I was running. I’m back to active duty, and I have my life back because of this program.”

You can learn more about Lt. Col. Melendez’s story in this Associated Press article, Wounded Warriors Get Rehab Alongside Pro Athletes, and in the video below featuring the powerful stories of three participants in The Comeback Initiative.
