Eat Great at the Beach
If you don't prepare for the beach, you may find yourself searching for popsicles or sorbets at ice cream stands, or crashing a barbecue. Instead, do your searching in advance. When you know which beach you'll be going to, do an Internet search for nearby health food stores.
You can restock at the stores, but still come prepared with the basics. Here's what to put in your cooler:
- Bottled water and unsweetened tea
- Sandwiches (PB & J, lean deli meats and cheese on whole grain bread)
- Baked pita chips with hummus, salsa or guacamole (try this guacamole recipe)
- Fresh fruit
- Trail mix (make your own with Kashi cereal and mixed nuts)
- String cheese
Once you have the right foods packed, all you need to do is remember to eat. Set the timer on your watch for every 3 hours. It's easy to lose track of time at the beach, but this little reminder will help you eat often to keep your metabolism stoked and your energy high.
