Eat Great at the Beach

If you don't prepare for the beach, you may find yourself searching for popsicles or sorbets at ice cream stands, or crashing a bbq. Instead, do your searching in advance. When you know which beach you'll be going to, do an Internet search for nearby health food stores.

You can restock at the stores, but still come prepared with the basics. Here's what to put in your cooler:

  • Ice
  • Bottled water and unsweetened teas
  • Sandwiches (PB & J or lean meats and cheese on whole grain bread)
  • Baked pitas and hummus, salsa, or guacamole
  • Fresh fruit or fruit tray
  • Individual yogurts
  • Individual baggies of homemade trail mix (Kashi cereal with mixed nuts)
  • String cheese

Once you have the right foods packed, all you need to do is remember to eat. Set the timer on your watch for every 3 hours. It's easy to lose track of time at the beach, but this little reminder will help you eat often to keep your metabolism stoked and your energy high.
