In the News: Bread is the #1 Source of Salt in the American Diet

A new report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that the #1 source of salt in the American diet is bread. Researchers analyzed more than 7,000 food surveys and found that bread and rolls accounted for 7.4 percent of sodium consumed, followed by cold cuts/cured meats (5.1%) and pizza (4.9%). So think twice before you go for a second-helping from the bread basket.
