Navigate the Grocery Store
The grocery store can be a daunting place when you don't have a plan. The aisles are filled with processed, high sugar, and high fat options that don't have a place in your nutritious eating plan. The solution: Plan for it.
1. Fuel up before you go.
It's never a good idea to shop on an empty stomach. You'll end up making impulsive purchases. Eat a healthy snack like an apple or an handful of nuts before you head out to the store.
2. Avoid the aisles.
Avoid the ends of aisles and the aisles themselves. The natural food and dairy section are the only exceptions. Most fruits, vegetables, and meats are along the perimeter of the store.
3. Create a list.
If you write down what you need to build your meals for the week, that's what you'll get, and nothing more. You wouldn't go on a road trip without directions, so don't go the grocery store without a plan.
4. Try new foods.
Include in your list a new fruit, vegetable, or spice every week. Adding variety to your diet can help you get more nutrients and stick with your healthy eating plan.
