Q&A: Pre-Workout Protein Shooter

citymama / flickr
Q: How much protein should there be in a pre-workout shooter? — Lisa, Birmingham, AL
A: Research has shown that going into your workout fueled will help your performance during training sessions. Eating a mixture of carbohydrates and protein may also jumpstart your recovery. Combine 5-15 grams of protein and 10-30 grams of carbohydrates prior to training. An easy way to do this is to stir half a scoop of whey protein into a 6-ounce glass of orange juice.
