The 300-Calorie Challenge

rick / flickr

Ditch the disgusting diet foods. Simply cutting 300 calories out of your daily diet will not only help you lose fat, but it could also slow the signs of aging like wrinkles and crow’s feet, report researchers at St. Louis University.

The mechanism: As your daily calorie intake decreases, so does production of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3), which then slows tissue aging.

Long-term studies will determine if decreasing T3 through calorie restriction helps slow the aging process, but there are already plenty of reasons to give the 300-calorie challenge a try.

  • You’ll lose weight.
  • You’ll reduce your risk for heart disease and obesity.
  • You’ll feel more energized by replacing high-calorie foods with lower-calorie meals packed with protein and healthy fats.

So skip dessert, or sub in a turkey sandwich for that hamburger and fries. You’ll feel better, and you may even look younger.
