Q&A: Does Stretching Make You Weaker?

Dave Cruz
Q: I just started a Core Performance training program and was wondering why you have me stretching the muscle I am about to work in the strength section of the workout. Example: lat rack stretch - 1 arm 1 leg row. I thought stretching reduces the amount of force I can create? — Paul , Ada, MI
A: The active isolated stretching technique you are using is a dynamic stretch. That means the goal is to activate key stabilizer muscles and increase blood flow to the areas that you're training in your workout, as opposed to static stretching where you stretch and hold a muscle to shut it down. This keeps you moving between exercises and can optimize your muscle performance.
