Want to improve your running performance? Try updating your iPod. British researchers found that the beats per minute, or BPM, of your music impacts your performance. They found that listening to songs that clock in at more than 120 BPMs increased running capacity by an impressive 15 percent.
If you want to take advantage of this phenomenon, try incorporating some of the fast-paced songs below into your mix. Tunes like the 156 BPM Roundball Rock—which you might remember as the classic NBA on NBC theme song—or Iron Maiden’s 159 BPM Run to the Hills can give your feet an extra kick of motivation when your energy starts to lag.
