Well at Work

Hit the Gym to Increase Your Salary

Exercise has been shown to help boost brain power and productivity, and it turns out that finding time for the gym also translates to higher wages, according to a new study published in the Journal of Labor Research [LifeHacker.com]. Researchers found that workers who regularly hit the gym earned 9 percent more than their non-exercising co-workers.

They used a propensity score matching technique, used to help eliminate bias in statistical studies, to score each study participant to determine if workers who earned more were always healthy and good at their jobs, or if they were workers who specifically put in the effort to exercise regularly. Researchers found that even people without a history of healthy behaviors performed better at work (and were rewarded for it) when they worked out on a regular basis.
